Spencer Peterman is always on the lookout for fallen trees rotting in the woods. Hidden in those fallen trees, especially the ones covered by moss and dirt, is a second life. Peterman magically brings local wood that would have normally been discarded, chipped, or used for firewood back to life in the form of bowls, serving boards, salad tossers, and other farmhouse kitchenware products. New England provides a variety of hardwoods to work with like Cherry, Black Walnut, Spalted and Ambrosia Maple, and Cherry Burls! Michele created a food-safe milk paint for our oak bowls which we call the White Pearl and Driftwood collection. Peterman’s designed and engineered its own lathe that could produce not only a more natural and rough-edge bowl, but one that could create multiple bowls out of a solid log. The custom lathe is designed so that there is little to no waste while making bowls. A Spencer Peterman signature!
Partners in both life and business, Spencer and Michele met in the late 90s. At the time, Michele owned a successful pottery business and Spencer made a living weaving Nantucket baskets. After Spencer transitioned to woodworking, Michele joined the Peterman’s team, bringing along her business acumen and organizational skills.
