BPMA Seeks Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships

The Boston Public Market Association (“BPMA”) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) with a mission to develop and operate the Boston Public Market, the permanent year-round market in Boston that provides fresh, healthy food to consumers of all income levels and nourishes our community. The 28,000 square foot Boston Public Market houses close to 40 local farmers, fishers and food entrepreneurs, selling items such as fresh produce, meat and poultry, eggs, milk and cheese, baked goods, beverages, flowers and an assortment of specialty and prepared foods.  In addition to these permanent vendors, the Market also welcomes short-term pop up vendors who participate for a limited time frame.

The Position and Responsibilities:

The Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships at the Boston Public Market Association is responsible for developing and maintaining institutional partnerships, engaging community stakeholders, and creating robust, mission-based public programming. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing partnership and community engagement activities that foster community, inclusion and participation across a broad stakeholder group; seek and manage external events and retail opportunities that support public impact goals
  • Participate in programming and community initiatives inside and outside the Market, including seasonal festivals, community events, listening sessions, committees, and local food system development activities
  • Assist with fundraising, grant writing, and donor relationship management, including oversight of annual Harvest Party Fundraiser activities
  • Collaborating on monitoring, evaluation and reporting activities, including survey research, annual report writing and program impact assessments
  • Promoting local food in partnership with the Communications & Marketing team to develop and execute communication and marketing campaigns that promote healthy, seasonal, and local food and BPM vendors\ Designing, managing, and evaluating internal programs that support the Market’s public health, community, and small business goals, while connecting our customers to local food. Programs include nutrition education programs; free public tours and field trips; food access initiatives like SNAP, HIP and FMNP; and regular partner-driven activities/programs
  • Oversee programming outcomes and partner relationship with The Trustees in the Market’s demonstration teaching kitchen
  • Supporting a diverse cohort of food producers via technical assistance, capacity building, event management, and relationship management with community partners
  • Managing and mentoring seasonal interns, volunteers, and partners staff to deliver successful education activities and events, including free fieldtrip and tour programs
  • Foster an inclusive, welcoming Market environment for customers, visitors and local producers of all backgrounds and income levels

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional program design and management skills; fundraising and development experience; ability to work on multiple projects with multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Agile, flexible, and mission-driven individual committed to health and wellness education and local food
  • Team-oriented and collaborative
  • Demonstrates ability to work with deadlines in a fast paced work environment and handles all situations calmly.
  • Highly organized team player with experience planning and managing events
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills and attention to detail.
