July Happenings at the Boston Public Market

Celebrating our Two Year Anniversary with “Fresh Fridays” and a Mobile Produce Trike

BOSTON—July marks the Two Year Anniversary of the Boston Public Market’s opening! Stunning displays of strawberries, snap peas, and sunflowers currently line the aisles, making the days when the building was completely vacant feel like a distant memory. Since opening in 2015, the Market has welcomed over 3.5 million visitors, and has become a dynamic civic space and local food hub offering a unique experience for all who visit.

With two years under our overalls, the Boston Public Market team is taking the show on the road via the “BPM Blueberry,” a brand-new mobile produce trike! This farm stand on wheels can carry up to 400 pounds of produce, traveling to schools, community events, and other destinations throughout the city to make farm fresh food more accessible. The BPM Blueberry will serve as a (literal) vehicle to expand the Market’s reach in educating the public about healthy eating and local food sourcing. Requests for a Blueberry special appearance can be sent to Mackenzie Sehlke, Director of Programming and Community Engagement, at msehlke@bostonpublicmarket.org.

First stop for the Blueberry: Fresh Fridays at Boston Children’s Museum! We’re teaming up with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation and the Children’s Museum to launch a free weekly series in July focused on encouraging families to cook and eat healthy meals together. Starting July 7 from 5:30-7:30pm and continuing the next three Fridays, these outdoor events will feature live music, healthy recipe demos, and the opportunity for kids to take home their choice of locally grown fruits and vegetables from our mobile farm stand. After picking up their CSA, families can take advantage of the Museum’s $1 Friday night admission rate.

While we distribute tomatoes and zucchini to kids at Fresh Fridays, we’ll be pouring wine and beer for adults at our Summer Fridays Sip & Shop series. Every Friday from 3-7pm this summer, visit our BPM bar stocked with local beverages to enjoy as you catch up with friends, eat dinner in the Hub, or peruse the Market for weekend necessities. Cheers to summer!

Headed to Harborfest this weekend? We challenge you to a Red, White, and Blue scavenger hunt throughout the Market (available at the Information Desk). While you’re here, take advantage of Fourth of July specials on grilling ingredients, lobster bake essentials, and party food favorites!
