Buy a Pie and Give Back this Thanksgiving

Written by Community Servings

We all need two things at Thanksgiving – a pie for our table, and a way to give thanks for the harvest. Community Servings’ Pie in the Sky bake sale offers a way to do both.

Community Servings is a non-profit that provides nutritious, made-from-scratch meals to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illness such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, MS, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses.

Each November, Pie in the Sky brings together Boston’s most celebrated chefs, bakers, and caterers for one purpose – to donate nearly 20,000 delicious pies, which are then sold by 600 volunteers to friends, families and colleagues. It is Community Servings’ most profitable fundraiser, raising $746,000 in 2014. This year, with more than 150 chefs, bakers, and caterers on board, Community Servings hopes to raise $800,000 – the ‘World’s Greatest Bake Sale!’

Offering the choice of apple, pecan, pumpkin or sweet potato, each pie is $28, the amount it costs Community Servings to provide a week’s worth of nutritious meals to client who is too sick to shop and cook for themselves and their families.

Community Servings will be setting up shop at Boston Public Market on Thursday, November 19th for its annual Pie Day. Pie Day is a city-wide celebration of Thanksgiving and Pie in the Sky! Pie Day will kick off at 11 am and run until 1 pm at Boston Public Market and we will be handing out samples of pie and taking Thanksgiving pie orders. The celebration will continue after the work day at Simon Pearce, 103 Newbury Street from 4-6 pm.
